One of the themes to come out of Climategate 2.0 is the phrase "The Cause" that Michael Mann mentions in a few of his emails. You probably already saw this fake movie trailer I made. But what is "The Cause"? I'm sure if you asked Michael Mann he would say it is to educate people about the dangers of Global Warming and to institute legislation like Cap & Trade to try and stop global warming in their minds they are "Saving The Planet". Also part of their cause is to win the PR battle and to silence the skeptics, because you can only pass new laws if a large majority believe in it. This is basically what he says int this TEDx speech.
To be fair we as skeptics also have a cause, our cause is to expose the warmists like Michael Mann and to stop their agenda. So having a "Cause" per se is not a bad thing, both skeptics and warmists are fighting for their perspective causes on the battlefield of public opinion. So why is this phrase so insidious? Well maybe the cause to what Michael refers is more than just a scientific theory about the weather.
In Michael's TEDx speech he brings up the fact that the first Climategate came out just before the Copenhagen meeting and it helped to derail a "most important opportunity" for an international agreement. He states that maybe it was just a coincidence, but I don't think it was. Here are the event leading up to the Copenhagen Meeting in my mind, and I do think it would make a great movie.
THE TIMELINE OF "THE CAUSE"
May 2006 Al Gore's 'An Inconvenient Truth' is Released
January 2007 There is a big media push on Global Warming based on Al Gore's movie
January 2007 M4GW is launched to help counter the propaganda blitz
February 2007 Al Gore's Wins Oscar for 'Inconvenient Truth'
March 2007 The skeptics fire back with "The Great Global Warming Swindle
October 2007 Al Gore Wins Nobel Peace Prize
April 2008 Big push for Cap And Trade, Newt Gingrich and Nancy Pelosi couch add
November 2008 Congress bans the incandescent light bulb
November 2008 Obama is elected President promising to do something about Global Warming
October 2009 Lord Monckton gives this speech Bethel College in Minnesota
November 2009 Climategate happens, emails are released showing that is all a hoax
November 2009 M4GW releases "Hide The Decline"
December 2009 Copenhagen treaty fails.
Here's how I would pitch the movie script: A small group of bloggers were able to prevent a one World Government from being instituted. The person who leaked the emails had seen the Lord Monckton speech on youTube and was motivated to do something to prevent the Copenhagen treaty form being signed.
But just because we had one the battle in Copenhagen doesn't meant the warmists have given up. It is like the local school board trying to pass a budget referendum. If they fail one year they keep proposing it every year until it passes, usually in an off year election when nobody is paying attention. The opposition thinks because they won the battle they have won the war.
Fast forward to the Durban Conference, where it looks like they are hammering out a deal.
And this one is even scarier than Copenhagen, now they are proposing a Climate Criminal Court and a CO2 target of 200 ppm which if achieved plants will stop growing.
Here's where our movie take a dark twist when we realize that there are dark forces behind the whole global warming scare, using it setup a one world government
The IPCC itself was created by Margarete Thatcher to go after the coal industry and to put more nuclear power plants in Great Britain. So at its inception although World Government was not its goal the IPCC has always been about politics and not science.
Now enter "The Club of Rome" an organization whose goal seems to be a One World Communistic Government and reducing the earth's population. Next year is the 40th anniversary of its book "Limits To Growth".
Alexander King in 1991 the Co-Founder of the Club of Rome wrote this in his book 'The First Global Revolution':
"The common enemy of humanity is man. In searching for a new enemy to unite us, we came up with the idea that pollution, the threat of global warming, water shortages, famine and the like would fit the bill. All these dangers are caused by human intervention, and it is only through changed attitudes and behavior that they can be overcome. The real enemy then, is humanity itself."
There is a strong connection between the "Club of Rome" and the IPCC Prof. Stephen Schneider, Stanford Professor of Biology and Global Change. Professor Schneider was among the earliest and most vocal proponents of man-made global warming and a lead author of many IPCC reports. He is a member of the Club of Rome.
"We need to get some broad based support, to capture the public's imagination... So we have to offer up scary scenarios, make simplified, dramatic statements and make little mention of any doubts... Each of us has to decide what the right balance is between being effective and being honest."Timothy Wirth, President of the UN Foundation and member of the Club of Rome said this:
"We've got to ride this global warming issue. Even if the theory of global warming is wrong, we will be doing the right thing in terms of economic and environmental policy."Maurice Strong, Executive Director of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), Al Gore's mentor and executive member of the Club of Rome had this to day:
"Isn't the only hope for the planet that the industrialized civilizations collapse? Isn't it our responsibility to bring that about?"
"The Earth Summit will play an important role in] reforming and strengthening the United Nations as the centerpiece of the emerging system of democratic global governance."
"The concept of national sovereignty has been an immutable, indeed sacred, principle of international relations. It is a principle which will yield only slowly and reluctantly to the new imperatives of global environmental cooperation. It is simply not feasible for sovereignty to be exercised unilaterally by individual nation states, however powerful. The global community must be assured of environmental security."
Al Gore, is also a member of the Club of Rome and set to become the world's first carbon billionaire. He is also the largest shareholder of Chicago Climate Exchange (CCX)
"I believe it is appropriate to have an 'over-representation' of the facts on how dangerous it is, as a predicate for opening up the audience."
Mikhail Gorbachev, Former President of the Soviet Union, member of the Club of Rome:
"The threat of environmental crisis will be the 'international disaster key' that will unlock the New World Order."
Last but not least is David Rockefeller Club of Rome executive member, former Chairman of Chase Manhattan Bank
"We are on the verge of a global transformation. All we need is the right major crisis and the nations will accept the New World Order."
"We are grateful to The Washington Post, The New York Times, Time Magazine and other great publications whose directors have attended our meetings and respected their promises of discretion for almost forty years. It would have been impossible for us to develop our plan for the world if we had been subject to the bright lights of publicity during those years. But, the world is now much more sophisticated and prepared to march towards a world government. The supranational sovereignty of an intellectual elite and world bankers is surely preferable to the national auto-determination practiced in past centuries."
"Some even believe we (the Rockefeller family) are part of a secret cabal working against the best interests of the United States, characterizing my family and me as 'internationalists' and of conspiring with others around the world to build a more integrated global political and economic structure 'one world', if you will. If that's the charge, I stand guilty, and I am proud of it."
You can see more quotes here.
I can't find anything saying that Rajendra Pachauri head of the IPCC is a Club of Rome member but he does attend their meetings, in fact he just attended their Conference in November.
To bring it full circle when Phil Jones says:
"Getting people we know and trust [into IPCC] is vital"
He wasn't kidding.
